The details

Four tones

The same wedding, worded four ways

Formal wording follows traditional etiquette — third person, spelled-out dates, no abbreviations. The others loosen up as you go.

Formal

Parents hosting, black tie, a house of worship or ballroom.

Mr. and Mrs. David Hart request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their daughter Amelia Grace to Julian Reyes

Modern

The couple hosting, clean lines, still dressed up.

Amelia & Julian are getting married Saturday, September 11, 2027 at four o'clock The Willow Barn, Hudson, NY

Casual & playful

Backyards, barns, and “come as you are.”

We're doing it! Amelia and Julian would love you at their wedding — good food, questionable dancing, one big yes.
Anatomy of an invitation

Six lines, in this order, every time

Get the order right and almost any wording works. These are the rules the generator follows for you.

1

Host line

Whoever is hosting, traditionally whoever is paying. “Mr. and Mrs.” for formal, first names for modern, or skip it entirely and lead with “Together with our families.”

2

Request line

“Request the honour of your presence” for a ceremony in a house of worship; “the pleasure of your company” everywhere else. The British spellings signal formality.

3

Names

Full names with middle names for formal, first names for modern. The host's child is named first, and “to” is more formal than “and.”

4

Date & time

Formal invitations spell everything out — “Saturday, the eleventh of September” and “four o'clock in the afternoon.” No numerals, no a.m. or p.m.

5

Location

Venue name, then city and state. Street addresses belong on the details card, not on the invitation itself.

6

Reception & RSVP

“Reception to follow” if it's the same venue. Then one unmissable way to reply — a link, a number, or a text.

Invitation wording questions

Is the wedding invitation wording generator free?

Completely free, with no sign-up. Word as many versions as you like and copy whichever you prefer. We built it as a gift to couples — and to introduce you to Text My Wedding, our text-message RSVP and guest-messaging app.

Whose names go on the host line?

Traditionally the people hosting, usually one or both sets of parents. If you are paying for the wedding yourselves, you can host in your own names or skip the host line and lead with “Together with our families.” Divorced, remarried, and blended families each have their own conventions — we cover those situations on our wedding invitation wording guides.

“Honour of your presence” or “pleasure of your company”?

Use “the honour of your presence” when the ceremony is in a house of worship, and “the pleasure of your company” for every other venue. The British spelling of honour is the traditional choice on formal invitations.

Do I have to spell out the date and time?

Only on formal invitations, where everything is written out: “Saturday, the eleventh of September, two thousand twenty-seven, at four o'clock in the afternoon.” Modern and casual invitations use numerals freely — pick a tone and the generator handles the difference for you.

Can I use this for a text-message wedding invitation?

Yes — that is the second tab. You get a condensed version sized for a text, with a clear RSVP instruction, alongside the printed card wording. It is how thousands of couples invite guests to showers, rehearsal dinners, and full weddings.

How much should we put on the invitation itself?

Who is hosting, who is marrying, the date, the time, and the place. Everything else — the street address, the hotel block, the dress code, the registry — belongs on a details card or your wedding website, so the invitation stays readable.

Do you save what I type?

No. Your details are sent to our wording service to write the draft and are sent straight back to you — we do not store them, and they are not used to train AI models. Copy your favourite version somewhere safe, because closing the tab loses it.
