Set the host line to “the couple” or “families together” in the generator and compare the two versions side by side with your own details in them.
Lead with your names and let the request line follow them. This is the cleanest option when parents aren't contributing, when families are complicated, or when you simply prefer it.

The host line is the most politically loaded line on the invitation. Five ways to keep it accurate and kind.
With no host line, the invitation leads with your names and the request line follows them: “Eleanor and Thomas request the pleasure of your company at their marriage.” Keeping the request line first without a host reads as an error.
It acknowledges love and support, not funding. It is the right choice for most couples paying their own way — including those whose parents contributed something but not the whole day.
Listing one set and not the other is the fastest way to cause hurt. Either name every parent, or name none and use the “together with our families” line.
The traditional “to” marks the host's child being married to someone. When you host yourselves, you are equal parties on the invitation — “and” is correct.
Parents sometimes expect to appear on the invitation even when they haven't paid for it. One conversation beforehand costs less than reprinting a hundred cards.
Each of these comes up constantly in the same three situations.
Copying a template that opens “Mr. and Mrs. request the honour…” when you are paying yourselves misrepresents who is hosting — and commits your parents to a role they may not have agreed to.
Unless one family is genuinely hosting, single-family host lines read as a statement about whose wedding it is. If only one set contributed, “together with our families” is the graceful cover.
“With thanks to our parents” turns the invitation into a speech. Thank them in the programme, at the reception, or in a note — the invitation is for inviting.
Set to “families together with the couple.” Switch the host line to “the couple” or “no host line” to see how the opening changes with your names in it.
A phone number, a website, or “reply to this text.”
It signals that the couple is hosting with their families' blessing and support, without naming anyone or making a claim about who paid. It is the most common opener for couples hosting their own weddings, and it works equally well when both, one, or neither set of parents contributed.
Use “their families” when the invitation is written in third person — the traditional formal register. Use “our families” when the invitation speaks in your voice, which is most modern and casual wording. Whichever you pick, keep the person consistent across the whole card.
Not at all. Leading with your names is standard for couples hosting themselves and is often the kindest option when families are blended, estranged, or complicated. Etiquette only asks that the invitation be truthful about who is inviting.
You can, and many couples do: list both sets under your names as “together with their parents.” If only one family contributed, naming them alone will read as a statement about the other, so “together with our families” is usually the better call.
Yes, if the ceremony is in a house of worship — the phrase describes the venue, not the host. Everywhere else it is “request the pleasure of your company.” The generator picks correctly based on the tone and details you enter.
The programme, the reception toast, or a line on your wedding website. Some couples also list parents on the ceremony programme under “Parents of the couple,” which gives them a named place without changing who is hosting.
