The generator

Write your wedding thank-you notes

Preset for the most common case — a check from one household, thanked warmly. Change the situation, pick a tone, and switch to the whole gift list when you're ready to do all of them at once.

✍️
Wedding thank-you note generatorFree · no signup · runs entirely in your browser

Etiquette holds either way, but most guides agree: thank them for the generosity, not the number.

This note

Describe it the way you'd say it out loud. Never name the amount.

Inside three months, the note doesn't apologize. After that, it does — once, and briefly.

Private by design: the names, gifts and notes you type never leave your browser — every note is written on this page. No signup, no credits, no cap on how many you write.

The whole list, one pass

Batch mode: one thank-you note for every name on the gift list

Writing one thank-you note is not the problem. The problem is the hundred and forty of them, each different enough that two cousins comparing cards at Thanksgiving don't find the same sentence. Switch the tabs from One note to Whole gift list and paste your rows in.

1

Paste the list you already keep

One line per recipient: the name, then optionally the gift and what it's going toward, separated by a pipe or a comma. "Aunt Rosalind | a check | the deposit on our house" works, and so does "Aunt Rosalind" on its own. Up to 200 rows — this is a gift list, not a mailing list.

2

A different note for every row

Each row is written from its own seed, derived from where it sits in your list rather than from one roll reused down the page. That is the difference between a hundred and forty notes and one note printed a hundred and forty times.

3

Change the situation without retyping the list

The rows stay put when you switch tone or scenario, so you can run the cash-gift half of your list warm, then the vendors formal, without pasting anything twice.

4

Copy them all at once

Copy all puts the finished batch on your clipboard, separated by a rule, so you can paste it into a document, print it, and work through the stack at the kitchen table with a pen. Every note also has its own Copy button if you'd rather go one at a time.

5

Download the recipients as a CSV

Recipient CSV downloads the names you typed as First Name, Last Name, Household, Plus Ones — the exact column shape the Text My Wedding guest import expects. The list you built to write the notes becomes the list you use to go and get the mailing addresses.

Note 01

Dear Aunt Fern, Thank you so much for your very generous check. It is going toward replacing the car, which has been dying loudly and in public since roughly 2019 — you have spared several of our neighbours. It meant everything to have you there. With love, Elena and Theo

Note 02

Dear Callum, Thank you for your contribution to our honeymoon fund. It paid for the cooking class we booked on a whim, which we are now insufferable about — Theo has opinions on knives. You will be fed when we get back. With love, Elena and Theo

Note 03

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Ackerman, Thank you sincerely for the gift card, and for choosing a shop we genuinely love. We have a very specific plan for it: the dining chairs we have been circling since spring. It was a pleasure to have you with us. With sincere thanks, Elena and Theo

Note 04

Dear Rosa and Duncan, Thank you for the cast-iron pot. It has already produced one very good stew and one that we have agreed never to discuss, and it now lives permanently on the stove. Come and risk a dinner with us. With love, Elena and Theo

Note 05

Dear Lena, Thank you for the wool blanket — it has claimed the end of the sofa, and neither of us is allowed to move it now. Thank you for thinking of us. Elena and Theo

Note 06

Dear everyone in the Halstead studio, Thank you for the picnic hamper, and for the card — it took longer to read than the hamper took to unpack, which we mean as a compliment to all twenty-two of you. Thank you all, Elena and Theo

Note 07

Dear Bekah, Thank you for driving up on the Friday and staying to the absolute end — you were the one holding the marquee door shut when the rain came in, and you never once looked at your watch. Let's not leave it so long next time. With love, Elena and Theo

Note 08

Dear Great-Aunt Nell, Thank you for the tea set, and for the letter that came with it — we read it out loud at the kitchen table the morning it arrived, twice. We were sorry not to have you with us. We are coming to you next, with the tea set. With love, Elena and Theo

Note 09

Dear Anton, Thank you for the photographs. You worked for nine hours and we barely noticed you were there, which is the highest compliment we know how to pay a photographer — and the portrait of Theo's grandmother is now hanging in three separate houses. We have left a review, and you are welcome to use anything in it. With sincere thanks, Elena and Theo

Imogen — Thank you for the speech, for the spare tights, and for standing between me and my aunt's opinions for one entire afternoon. You have been doing this job since long before it had a title. All my love, Elena

Note 11

Dear Mom and Dad, Thank you for the wedding, and for the year in front of it — the phone calls about chairs, the two trips to a venue you had already seen, the afternoon Dad spent fixing a gate that was not ours. What I keep coming back to is the drive home, and the two of you following us out to the car. Everything we are starting here, we are starting with what you gave us. With all my love, Theo

Note 12

Dear Grandma Jo, This is embarrassingly late, and I'm sorry. Thank you for your very generous check — it went toward the new furnace, which is the least romantic and most appreciated thing we bought all year. We think of you often, and we'll call on Sunday. With love, Elena and Theo

What you get

A free, personalized wedding thank-you note generator

Every generator in this category promises free, personalized and custom. Here is what each of those words actually means on this page, so you can check them before you type anything.

1

Free, with no cap and no account

No signup, no credits, no trial, no per-note charge, and no limit on how many notes you generate or how many times you re-roll one you don't like. There is no paid tier of this tool to upgrade to — the free version is the only version.

2

Personalized to the actual gift

The note names the gift the way you would say it out loud and says what it is going toward, because "thank you for your generous gift" with nothing after it is exactly what makes a card read like a form letter. Two optional fields do most of that work.

3

Custom by situation, not by template

Eight situations, four tones, and sub-selectors inside them: cash, check, gift card or fund; kept it, already had one, or exchanged it; which vendor; which role in the wedding party; how late you are. That is thousands of combinations before the phrase bank picks a single word.

4

Easy: three fields and a tone chip

A name, the gift, and what it's going toward. Everything else is optional, and a note built from the name alone still comes out usable — you are never staring at a form before you can see an example.

5

Simple to fix

Rewrite re-rolls any note you don't like, as many times as you want, and nothing is locked in. Editing the result before you write it out is expected: this is a draft that gets you past the blank card, not a finished product.

6

The best version of this note is in your handwriting

A printed message with a printed signature is the one version no etiquette guide defends; whether a printed card with a handwritten paragraph counts is genuinely argued about, and handwriting it is the answer nobody can object to. Use the generator to find the words and to stop rewriting the same opening sentence forty times, then copy it onto the card in your own hand and add the one line only you could have written.

Same tool, other names

A wedding thank-you card generator, note writer and wording tool in one

People arrive here searching for four different things and meaning the same one. Here is what each of those names gets you on this page, so you can tell in ten seconds whether this is the tool you were looking for.

1

A wedding thank-you card generator — for the words, not the card

It writes what goes inside the card: the greeting, the gift named properly, what it is going toward, and a sign-off. It does not design or print anything — choosing the card itself is a separate decision, and the two halves of the job are deliberately kept apart.

2

A wedding thank-you note writer for the whole list

Most tools calling themselves a thank-you note writer write one note. The reason this one exists is the other hundred and thirty-nine: batch mode takes a pasted list of recipients and writes a different note for each row, seeded from where the row sits in your list rather than from one roll reused down the page.

3

A wedding thank-you card wording tool for every situation

Eight situations rather than one generic template: money, a registry gift, a group gift, a guest who gave nothing, a guest who could not come, a vendor, the wedding party, your parents. Each has its own sub-selectors, because the wording for a check and the wording for a gift card genuinely differ.

4

A wedding thank-you wording generator, if you never say "card"

Same tool. Pick a situation, pick a tone, and you get finished wording you can copy onto stationery, into a message, or into the letter you owe your parents — which is the one output that is allowed to run past the edge of a card.

Private by design

A thank-you note generator that never sees your gift list

What you type into a thank-you note generator is a gift ledger: third parties' names next to what they gave you, for up to a couple of hundred people. Every other generator on this topic posts that to a server and on to a model, behind an account. This one cannot, because it is not built that way.

1

It is a deterministic engine, not a model

The notes are assembled from a written phrase bank by a seeded picker that runs in this tab. There is no API route behind the tool and no model call anywhere in this funnel — nothing you type is ever sent for a note to come back, which is also why it answers instantly and never fails at 2am. The only requests this page makes are the coarse analytics events described below, and none of them carry a word you typed.

2

Nothing you type is sent anywhere

Recipient names, gift descriptions, the pasted batch and the finished notes stay in your browser. They are not uploaded, not stored on our side, not attached to an account, and not used to train anything. Close the tab and they are gone.

3

No signup, no credits, no cap

You do not create an account to use this, there is no counter to run down, and there is no email gate on the results. Nothing is emailed to you and no results page is saved for later, because there is nowhere for it to be saved.

4

The analytics are deliberately blunt

We count that the tool was used, which situation and tone were picked, and roughly how large a batch was — coarse numbers and fixed options only. No text you type is part of that measurement, and there is no code path that could put it there.

5

If that ever changes, this section comes off the page

The privacy claim constrains what we are allowed to build: adding a model call would mean deleting this copy in the same commit. That rule is written into the funnel's own documentation, not just into the marketing.

Which artifact is this?

Thank-you card, text or letter — what the generator is writing

Three different things get called a thank-you, they run on different clocks, and the tool writes all three. Picking the wrong one is the most common mistake in the whole topic, so pick knowingly.

✉️

The carda handwritten card in the mail

Within three months of the wedding. This is the default and what nearly every note below is for: the durable thank-you for a gift, in your handwriting, in an envelope. It is not replaced by a text, however warm the text was.

💬

The texta same-week message saying the gift arrived

Within a week of the gift arriving. Use it when a check or a package needs acknowledging before you can realistically get to the cards — silence after cash reads as loss. It is a receipt, not a thank-you: it buys time for the card and never replaces it.

📄

The lettera longer letter with no card around it

Whenever you're ready, inside the same three months. Pick the Parents situation and let it run past the edge of a card. Reserve it for parents, in-laws, and anyone whose gift changed your year rather than furnished your kitchen. It is not the default: for most gifts a full letter reads as overcorrection.

Good to know

Wedding thank-you note generator questions

Is this an AI thank-you note generator like ChatGPT?

No, and that is deliberate. It is a deterministic engine: a written phrase bank plus a seeded picker that runs in your browser, so there is no model, no server and no account behind it. That is what lets us say your gift list never leaves the page, and it is why there is no credit limit — nothing costs us anything per note. The trade is honest: it will not improvise about your specific aunt. It gets you a correct, specific draft in seconds, and you add the one sentence only you could write.

How many thank-you notes can I generate?

As many as you want. There is no cap, no credit counter, no signup and no daily limit, and you can re-roll any note as often as you like. Batch mode walks up to 200 rows in a single pass, which covers all but the largest guest lists — if yours is longer, run it in two batches.

Does my gift list get uploaded when I generate thank-you notes?

No. The names, gift descriptions and pasted rows you type stay in your browser tab: the notes are assembled locally, there is no API route behind the tool, and no text you type is ever transmitted. The page does send blunt analytics events — that the tool was used, which situation and tone were picked, and roughly how large a batch was, all fixed options and coarse bands — and there is no code path that could put your text into one. Nothing is stored on our side, attached to an account, or used to train anything. Closing the tab discards it all.

Can the generator write a thank-you note that is already months late?

Three months after the wedding is the standard deadline, and The Knot's widely quoted version tightens it for gifts that arrived before the day — two weeks for those, three months for everything after. Past that, send it anyway: a note a year late is still far better than none, and the people waiting are not keeping score, they are wondering whether the gift arrived. Set the how-late selector and the note apologizes once, briefly, and does not explain.

Is the wedding thank-you note generator really free?

Yes — free, unlimited, and with nothing to buy or sign up for. We make money if you later use Text My Wedding to text your guests for their mailing addresses, which is the problem the notes create rather than the one they solve. You never have to, and the generator does not change if you don't.

Should I still handwrite the thank-you note it gives me?

Yes — that is the answer nobody can argue with. The guides agree on one floor: a printed message with a printed signature is not a thank-you card. Above that they split, with a practical camp accepting a printed card carrying a handwritten paragraph on a very large list and a traditional camp accepting nothing but a pen. Use the generator to find the words and to stop rewriting the same opening sentence forty times, then copy it onto the card in your own hand.

Do the thank-you notes mention how much money someone gave?

Never. Thanking someone for "the $500" turns a card into a receipt, and it lands badly when two relatives compare notes. The generator thanks people for their generosity and names what the money is going toward instead — that is the plan, not the number, and it is what makes the card specific.

You have the words. Now you need the addresses.

Text My Wedding texts every guest a link, they type their own mailing address, and you export the list in the shape a stationer or a calligrapher accepts.

You have 120 phone numbers and about nine mailing addresses — and the batch you just generated is a list of people whose envelopes you can't address yet.
