Casual doesn't mean vague
Relaxed wording fails in exactly one way: guests can't tell what time to arrive or what to wear. These five checks keep it friendly and functional.
1
Name the ceremony time, not just the day
“Saturday, September 11” with no time is the single most common problem with casual invitations. If the ceremony starts at four, say four — guests plan travel and childcare around it.

Say what happens after
“Reception to follow,” “dinner right after,” or “drinks until late” tells guests whether they are eating, and how long to stay. Silence gets you a dozen texts asking about food.

Signal the dress code in your own words
Casual invitations rarely say “cocktail attire.” “Dress comfortably, we're on grass” or “wear something you can dance in” does the same job and sounds like you.

Give one clear way to reply
A phone number to text, a website, or “reply to this message.” One route, one deadline. Two competing methods split your replies and double your chasing.

Keep the address off the card, but somewhere
Venue name and city are enough on the invitation. Put the full address on a details card, your website, or the text you send the week before.

Casual invitation wording questions
Is casual wedding invitation wording rude?
No. Etiquette asks that an invitation tell guests who is marrying, when, where, and how to reply — nothing about it requires third person or spelled-out dates. Match the wording to the wedding: a barn wedding worded like a cathedral wedding confuses guests more than a relaxed invitation ever will.
What is the difference between casual and modern wording?
Modern wording keeps a formal structure but drops the third person and the spelled-out dates — think “Amelia & Julian are getting married.” Casual wording sounds like you talking: “We're doing it!” Both are covered above, and the generator offers each as a separate tone.
Can we use numerals and abbreviations?
Yes. “Sat, Sept 11, 2027 at 4pm” is entirely at home on a casual invitation. The only rule worth keeping is consistency — pick one style for dates and times and use it on every card and on your website.
How do we ask for an RSVP casually?
Give a deadline and one method: “Text us by April 1 so we can count you in.” Text-message RSVPs get answered fastest, which is why our RSVP card page and text message wording page both lead with them.
Do we still need a host line?
