A text invitation is read in three seconds, standing up, half-distracted. Six rules make it work anyway.
Guests decide whether to keep reading from the preview on their lock screen. “Amelia & Julian are getting married” tells them everything they need to open it.
That's two SMS segments. Longer messages get split, arrive out of order on some carriers, and cost more to send. Our generator counts characters and segments as you type.
Date, place, what follows, dress code — each on its own line, ideally with an emoji anchor. Guests scan texts; they do not read paragraphs.
“Reply YES or NO by May 1.” Not a website and a phone number and a reply. Every extra route halves the number of guests who take any of them.
A text from an unfamiliar number reads as spam. “— Eleanor & Thomas” at the end, or the couple's names in the first line, is what stops it being deleted.
Don't bundle hotels, parking, and the schedule into the invitation. Send those the week before, when guests can act on them — a second text is free and gets read.
Three fixable reasons.
Six lines of unbroken prose on a phone gets skimmed and forgotten. Break every fact onto its own line — the same content, formatted for scanning, gets three times the replies.
